UC Cooperative Extension offers volunteer opportunities for Santa Cruz County residents

4-H volunteers -

The 4-H Youth Development Program helps young people discover and develop their potential, ultimately developing into responsible, self-directed, and productive members of global society. Volunteers share their knowledge with young people, offering youth in their communities hands-on skills in a wide array of projects, including animal, plant, food, and nutrition projects, as well as graphic arts, rocketry, forestry, photography, bicycles, and much more. If you would like to start a 4-H club in your community, or volunteer with an existing club, contact:

Master Gardener Volunteers -

The trained volunteers of the UC Master Gardeners program extend the ability of local Cooperative Extension offices to provide practical scientific horticulture and gardening information to the citizens of California. The U.C. Monterey Bay Master Gardener program provides public "gardening" education, problem solving, and many community outreach activities. Master Gardener Volunteers take an intensive training program in all aspects of gardening, then give their time teaching others, especially in low-income areas. Master Gardeners offer workshops at community gardens, youth gardens, homeless shelter gardens, answer questions on our telephone "hotline", and much more. Master Gardeners are volunteers, trained by the University of California Cooperative Extension. If you would like more information on becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer, call:
