Job Description: Download
The Position will be based in Kings County at UCCE office in Hanford, California.
Purpose: This position will focus on tree nut crops (almond, pistachio, and walnut) in Kings County, almond production in Tulare County, and plant/water/soils interactions for permanent tree and vine crops in Kings and Tulare Counties to positively impact local communities and ecosystems. The position will include working and collaborating with pomology and permanent crops advisors in the southern San Joaquin Valley to develop an integrated and complementary research and extension program that addresses vital local needs. Nut crop production is increasing rapidly throughout the state, and acreage in Kings and Tulare Counties has more than doubled in the past 15 years to more than 276,000 acres on over 1300 farms. Tree crops, in general, continue to increase as higher value crops replace low value crops, particularly rangeland and livestock forage. The advisor will also work with CE specialists and AES faculty to strengthen local program efforts and to increase the reach of the UC ANR continuum.
This an exciting opportunity to have meaningful impacts in the communities of Kings and Tulare Counties and throughout the Southern San Joaquin Valley. Opportunities abound for research and extension partnerships that link producers and resource professionals with relevant science-based information and promote effective problem solving. You will also join a team of highly motivated UCCE colleagues who are passionate about their work, and are dedicated to making a difference within the communities and working landscapes of California. The potential for collaborative projects within the UC ANR system is nearly limitless.
Counties of Responsibility: This position is focused on pomology in Kings County, almond production in Tulare County and plant, water and soils issues in Kings and Tulare Counties. There is opportunity to work collaboratively across counties.
