This position is located in Oroville, CA.
The Area Cooperative Extension (CE) advisor for rice farming systems will conduct a locally-based extension and applied research program with a broad focus on agronomic, pest management, production, and post-harvest issues impacting rice farming systems in Butte and Glenn counties. The CE advisor will develop and extend information that optimizes rice production and pest management technologies, while maximizing net farm income, conserving natural resources, and safeguarding the environment. Key clientele will include growers, managers, pest control advisors, certified crop advisers, allied industries, commodity groups, environmental groups, and public agencies.
The County Director is responsible for the coordination and overall operation of Cooperative Extension programs in Butte County. Responsibilities include leadership and oversight of all CE extension and research programs including effective management and supervision of all staff and academic personnel including oversight, evaluation (annual evaluations, merit and promotions), mentoring, coaching and discipline. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining effective collaboration and communication between the University of California and the administration of Butte County. Maintaining and enhancing Butte County CE budgets, serving as an advocate for CE and all of its programs, and developing and maintaining good working relationships with public and private agencies including Butte County is paramount to the success of the CD role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of an earned master's degree, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in plant sciences, agronomy, or pest management, is required by the appointment start date.
- A demonstrated ability in applied agricultural research and extension.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required.
- Experience managing and evaluating human, financial and technical resources and programs.

- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with other professionals
- Willingness and ability to embrace change as clientele and organizational needs evolve.
- Experience effectively managing and resolving conflict.
SALARY: Beginning salary will be in the Cooperative Extension Assistant Advisor Rank and commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications.
